This water is extremely radioactive and dangerous. However there is still living fish in the water.

Against all the odds, this is a perfect spot for fish to live:
1. the water is calm, because there are no antropogenic movements (ie. no fishermen or boats),
2. no fishermen to hunt them, and even if there were no one would eat a fish caught in Chernobyl,
3. due to the Soviet programs of fish farming in the bodies of water in that area there is a wide diversity of prey,
4. and most importantly, the weak speciments die right off, unable to survive the radiation and, perhaps even more so, stronger fish who feed on them; and those which survive gradually get higher radiation tolerance than those which live elsewhere. Mutants do happen to live here and there, but in most cases they die before reproducing, so their mutations do not pass to their offspring.
